It was with heavy hearts that we leave Las Joyas. During our last few days we met two lovely ladies, Shannon and Diane, from California studying population dynamics of the yellow-billed cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus). They are currently on their way south following the migration of the cuckoo, you can check their progress out here.
On our way out we stopped by to purchase some reminders of our time from Las Joyas, and then we made our way back down the mountain, excited for the next adventure in Autlán. We arrived at Hotel de Autlan where we were surprised with a pool, in which some of us took a refreshing dip. After, we had a nice lunch and followed by some free time to explore the town. We were lucky enough to be in Autlan during Carnaval. We went out to explore the town to immerse ourselves in the culture. We took our time enjoying the vendors while wandering the streets. We got a full ear of Mexican music in which different bands battled for the loudest sound side-by-side along the streets.
The group got back together to enjoy some wings and beers, after which we wandered back into the streets to try some real Mexican tequila and dance with some of the locals. We settled down at the hotel for a chance to get to know the group a little better.

Fue con algo de nostalgia que dejamos Las Joyas. En los pocos días allá conocimos a dos señoras, Shannon y Diane, de California que estaban estudiando la dinámica poblacional del Cuclillo américano (Coccyzus americanus) siguiendo su ruta de migración hacia el sur. Antes de salir de la estación, pasamos a comprar algunos recuerdos de nuestra visita en Las Joyas para luego bajar las montañas para nuestra siguiente Aventura en Autlán. LLegamos al Hotel Autlán donde nos encontramos para nuestra sorpresa una alberca en la que algunos nos aventamos para refrescarnos. Despues de una deliciosa comida nos dieron tiempo libre para explorer el pueblo.
Tuvimos suerte de que es carnival en Autlán, asi que nos fuimos a conocer las tradiciones de la cultura local. Disfrutamos viendo los puestos de venta mientras vagamos por las calles. Tuvimos una buena experiencia con la música Mexicana con diferentes bandas en competencia por la más ruidosa una lado de la otra en las calles.
Nos reunimos todo el grupo para comer alitas y cervezas y bailar con la gente local. Luego nos fuimos al hotel a convivir y conocernos mejor.
